If you are using wire why not use zinc ground clamps? Tin the copper wire where 
it does into the clamp. I have this on each tower leg using a solid #4 copper 
tinned wire to my ground field. Sill looks good after 24 years.

Leave the galvination in place.
I don't think you have to mess with paste or paint of any sort.
I would protect the connection from weather.
