I generally use a square knot with an extra half-hitch at each end. These have
never come apart yet. Where I can I love a bowline, because it always comes
apart easily when I need it to.

Good info. I use the "fisherman's knot" (same as improved clinch knot) to
attach the fishing line to the projectile used in my air launcher to shoot over
trees for antenna support lines.

For tying two lines together, I like the sheet bend.

On tying two ropes together, I would use TWO “improved clinch knots.” (My other
hobby is bass fishing.) My preference is Palomar knots, but that’s not
possible with long ropes. On the clinch knots, tie the first one to make a
small loop; and the second rope would go through the loop and tied with the
same type knot. Google “improved clinch Knots” to see how they are tied to
fishing hooks, but you can improvise from there. Very strong knots.
