I've been up many 3ertall towers (most made by Leblanc & Royle of Oakville
Ontario at the time) and almost all of them were triangular with angle iron
legs bent to 120 degrees.
They made at least one for the Canadian Coast Guard that was to be installed in
a Maritime province that had 12" diameter solid steel legs designed for heavy
ice loading.
