Sounds like you have a power issue somewhere, possibly a limit switch that has
gotten water into it or water in the motor.
There have been several threads here describing how to shield the TEFC motor on
the HDX-555 from the elements.
The manual / schematic used to be on the US Tower website, if you can't find it
contact me direct and I will send you a drop box link to my copy.
Also I have the manual crank handle here somewhere that came with my HDX-555
that allows you to manually raise or lower the tower if you need to borrow it.

I am looking at an HDX 555 tower and lifter of a friend of mine who is blind.
It is fully extended up. There is no noise from the motor. After some other
basic trouble shooting, I checked the motor's start capacitor, and it seems OK.
Makes a nice big spark when shorted. There is an indoor controller, and at the
tower's service panel one of several relays can be heard when toggle switch for
down is thrown (indoor or out.)Ideas/experiences? What is next? Any help or
suggestions would be very appreciated. I have not found or seen any service
