Why is it unfair? Because you weren't the subject of the QSO? That makes it
unethical?

No, this isn't unfair, unethical or anything. It's the nature of
competition. If I choose to work only ONE station, that's my perogative. If
it happens to be my buddy, then so much the better. If I choose NOT to work
someone, it it also my perogative.
That's the simple concept here. If you wish to attach the label of "unfair
and unethical" to this, that's your beef.

If a rover legitimately constructs a station (whether from their gear or
borrowed), goes out to East-Bumble, lights the wick and works one station
using legitimate amateur means as prescribed by the contest - WHAT makes
this unethical? The fact they don't work YOU?

If I'm calling CQ, and someone answers me - says "I'm not in the contest,
just wanted to give you a QSO" - then great! I'll take it. I earned that
QSO. I did everything within the rules to earn those points. If that same
person doesn't work you - that's not MY problem. But it sounds like you want
to MAKE it my problem. That's what I'm objecting to.

Let's all try this simple quiz:

1) Who has NEVER made a "good buddy QSO"?
2) Who has NEVER worked one station over another?

My answer to both are NOT ME. That makes me a bad person, an unethical
contester, and an unfair competitor. Yep. DQ me for life, Dan Henderson. I'm
bad people....
