In the SF Bay Area, 220 wins by a huge margin.
My experience is a lot of people with 1296 gear do not get on for the
contests and 220 contacts with the same station are much easier to make with
less investment of time and money. I have 1/3 the $$$ invested in my 220
station as I do my 1296 station, but I typically work 3 to 5 times more
people on 220.
