I have a Belkin hub, but need more serial ports. This one looks interesting
to me. Anyone tried it? It's a Belkin 98270-8, a separate box with a USB
to 4 DB-9 connectors for $130 from buy.com.

Here's a link:

Subject: [WriteLog] White Heat USB to Serial

I was at K5NA's place for IARU this past weekend. He had a WhiteHeat
USB to 4 db9 serial adapter. Looks like a nice box. Anyone using it
with Writelog? He had one on his packet cluster with 4 kantronics TNCs
attached working very well.

While searching the web page I also found a Blue Heat PCI card. They
have different kinds from 2 ports to 8 ports. The 8 port has the option
of having a box with the db9's installed which may be convenient. The
web site also says it supports 5,6,7 or 8 data bits, so that may be a
plus for fsk.

The web sites are:

The following is the retailer in NC that sells them:

Connect Techs web site:

http://www.connecttech.com

I like the USB route if it will work. That would give 6 com ports,
which should handle most requirements. However there is no info (that I
could find) that says wether the WhiteHeat USB to Serial converter will
handle 5 bits of data. I'll shoot them a note and find out.

Anyways, is anyone using either of the above that would care to comment?

Thanks.
