Here's another way to deal with the quick, same-band mult:
This is what I do with my FT-1000D. I'm sure it can be adapted to
any dual-receive radio:
I am using VFO A for my run freq. The radio is in DUAL mode, and
while waiting for a response to my CQ, or while the other station is
giving his 59914, I am tuning up the band with VFO B (or just look
for the highlighted yellow call in the bandmap and tune there with
VFO B. If I don't get an answer to my CQ, and the timing is right, I
quickly push the SPLIT button, and F4 to drop in my call. Quick
easy QSO! Push split again, quickly hit F1 to CQ again on the run
freq.
