And from Intel for Intel motherboard or chip set users, perhaps the most
common out there - with a note up upgrades from Windows 95 to 98 that can
cause PIO/DMA issues.

Unfortunatly every computer out there is diferent. I would suggest
searching on the motherboard manufacturers web site first to see if there
are any updated patches, drivers or diagnostic utilities to test for this
problem. Quite often it's just a BIOS software update that is needed.
Some can only be fixed by disabling the onboard IDE controllers and using
a more modern PCI version - or by replacing the motherboard entirely.
