The INI file informs WriteLog where the sound files are located. For example:

[Configuration]
WaveFileLocation=D:\Program Files\WriteLog\WaveFiles\

If you specify that WL should record the operator on duty when each QSO is
logged, then WL will create folders in this location for
each operator. When the operator records an on-the-fly message in a Function
key, that message will be stored in his folder. When
a different operator logs on duty (using the menu command to Change Operator),
WL will load up the on-the-fly messages for the new
operator from her folder.

After a contest, I copy these messages and the soundcard recordings of the
contest into a different archive location, along with a
copy of the INI file, notes, log files, breakdowns, and propagation data.
Later I'll add the unofficial results for CQ-Contest, the
official results, and my UBN report. The next year, I can go back to the
archive to use those messages again (and see how I had
things set up), recover the windows layout on my screen, look over my past
(dismal) performance, etc. Even a 48 hour contest,
continuously recorded with Windows default recording format, will fit on a
single DVD.

Just to expand a little on Joe's question....

I always record my voice messages "on-the-fly", and would like to then store
those recordings to specific contest files - that is, to have them available
for particular contests. So that in the future when I open a new contest
file I could point to .wav files that are specific for that contest and use
them if I so desire.

How do I do that?

Nothwithstanding of course the ability to record "on-the-fly" is still
available.

I appreciate that custom made recordings can be made and saved - - but how
do you do that "on-the-fly" from within the program? Where are they
stored, and how are they retrieved?

Hope I've explained that OK ! HI!
