After some testing, what's happening to the Network Frequencies box
became evident. I had three notebooks networked - none hooked to
radios. They all were set to a static frequency by clicking the large
box under "Radio" and setting the frequency to manual rather than a
radio on a COM port. Computers set up this way will display their
frequency around the network only for a few minutes after they log a
station - then they disappear. I added a fourth computer to the network
that has a radio being polled on a COM port. Its frequency always is
displayed on all four computers, even when it sits idle. Apparently, WL
looks at COM port and/or logging activity to decide to maintain the
frequency in the box. If it sees neither - the frequency disappears
after a short time.
For me - this implementation is ideal. Computers set to manual are
really just a test mode here. In contests, the computers are hooked to
radios and they will always display - just what I was looking for. A
"housekeeping" or "strategy computer in the back of the room" that might
also be on the network, but without a radio, will not display a manually
entered frequency - which is perfect as that's just clutter on the other
screens.
Instant wish-list fulfillment - okay!
