Hi Bill,
I had one of those 890's and it's a very good radio, much like the FT-900
without the detachable front panel and associated electronics. The only
negative thing I can think of about the 890 is that when you're using it
mobile and the sun or bright light hits the display then it (display) becomes
hard to see.
