Hi Carl,
I'm sure not the guy to say what might work for you.
I know nothing about the TH5, or the balun you have.
Hopefully, you'll get some info/ideas from others that will guide you
towards what you might try.

I consider myself just lucky (thanks to the help I got from this
reflector), rather than good.
All I provided was a willingness to work hard, and spend time to
solve/fix the existing problem, and then go experiment and try to find
something that suited my personal preference.

If you devote some time to the goal, and get a few good tips, you might
just find another configuration that makes you happy. 
If you do, please share it with all of us on TT.

Learning new stuff and getting new ideas is way more fun than being
stuck in any existing paradigm, whether it be one's own or one created
by others!
