With regard to the sinking of ground rods:
I have found that here in the N. Texas area where we also have a caliche
layer, along with a sandstone layer, that even a post hole setter won't do
the job!
My solution was to rent a Godzilla-sized hammer drill and with a little
patience and a cold 807, the the ground rods were in -- in no time!
