I shim mine! There's a formula in the HyGain manual that tells you how much
shim-stock to use depending on your mast diameter and thickness. I used
some aluminum
I had laying around the shack and used a micrometer to measure its
thickness.

I allow the antenna/mast weight to rest directly on the rotor.

Typically, the manual operation of the rotor brake and wind forces "chew-up"
a rotor over time.
