I use Polyphasers. There are spares to use for testing. Simply move the
inside and outside connectors to the spare to see if:
1. There is an increase in signal strength;
2. There is a change in VSWR.
In my 7 years of operation with 5 observed direct lightning hits on the 150'
tower, not one Polyphaser has been damaged. I can attribute some of this to
luck and some to a good tower ground system.

Subject: Re: [TowerTalk] Antenna/Tower Grounding (Lightning Protection)
Is there any way to tell when the ICE or Polyphaser arrestors need to be
replaced due to taking too many lightning hits? Any way to tell if/when
your tower has taken a hit?
