For some reason this subject comes up all the time on towertalk.   I fully 
agree with K5UJ, if you do not wish to use guy wires, buy a free standing 
tower, they are designed with a larger base to properly accept the loads.

Look, if you want to put up a 40 foot unguyed tower, why don't you go
out and get a 40 foot free standing tower, a tower that's _designed_
to be unguyed, and be done with it?    They make towers that are built
to be unguyed!  duh.   This debate about whether or not 40 feet of 25G
can be guyed shouold not even be happening.  I apologize for my
earlier message that somehow got sent prematurely.
