The safety wire is really to combat vandalism and possibly vibration induced unwinding of the turnbuckle. They are usually threaded through the turnbuckle and the ends connected to each other with a single *in line* cable clamp, totally incapable of supporting the tower in the event of a turnbuckle failure.
