Not exactly true. On a standard PL259, the center pin/insulator combo
can be popped out of the body (before installation) with a sharp rap of
something like a 1/4" nutdriver inserted from the rear of the connector.
The body is then screwed on to the cable as normal, the braid soldered,
inspected for solder blob shorts, and then the center pin/insulator is
re-inserted and the pin soldered.
Even the paranoid (like me) will do this a few times, see that there is
no tendency for blob issues to occur, and then go back to the normal
install method...
