While Cubical Quads are great performers, they're three-dimensional and require more care and feeding than that of the typical Yagi. Also - because they are so tall, stacking of VHF and UHF antennas can be an issue.

I started as a teenager with the old two element Gotham Quad and years later graduated to a four element Cubex Skymaster that I bought from the original owner of Cubex, Karl Sharping and loved it. Since I've always owned crank-up and tilt over towers, maintaining the Quad was never a big issue as I could always position the antenna so that the area of the antenna needing attention would always be within reach of the ground or at least a ladder. With that said, though, comparatively speaking, there's more maintenance to wire than aluminum tubing. Wire breaks always seemed to occur at the corners where the wire makes a hard turning passing through the fiberglass spreader arm. After enduring years of breaks, I finally removed and replaced all element wires and and slipped 4" lengths of PVC air shock air line tubing over the new element wires and positioned them at the four corners where the wire takes the most abuse from abrasion.

While I still own the antenna, it's now stored in the garage. I'm 55 now and while I enjoyed more than thirty five years of DX'ing with a Quad, I want fewer maintenance intervals and even fewer steps up and down a ladder in my backyard.

Cooler weather is coming (it's Florida!) and a new M2 KT-36XA on a NN4ZZ Tilt-Plate are about to go up. With the Tilt-Plate replacing the factory boom to mast coupler I'll finally be able to drop the top of the tower down below horizontal to make accessing the rotor and cable pulleys much more doable.

If you had a choice between antennas which would you choose a Mosley Pro 57B 3
inch boom or Cubev 4 element 5 band quad. Both would be mounted at 50ft. I do
not have modeling software to compair. Thoughts?????
