GE Silicone II is rated for 50 years. That or similar will plug tubes longer
and better than any of the caps provided by Mississippi's Finest Junk or
related brands (or just about any MFG’s provided caps.) For larger harder to
fill tube diameters, cover with tape and then cover the tape with a good
overlapping coat of Silicone rubber.

This approach worked well in the bright sun and salt air of San Diego
waterfront and seagoing applications subject to tough environmental stresses.

While you're replacing inferior parts, consider addressing the
plastic
element and boom caps. My last HyGain antenna
came with blue and
orange caps. The sun ate them up in
two years up here in Michigan. They
probably wouldn't
last a summer down south.

Possibly a good grade of
black tape, carefully applied, would offer some
degree of UV
protection.

MFJ is where good companies go to die.
