I went through through an evaluation of fuel costs few years back using this 
data: http://www.nooutage.com/fuels.htm

Natural gas was the least cost alternative at just about half the fuel cost of 
gasoline or diesel fuel, which were close to one another. LP gas seems to cost 
more than twice what natural gas does, clearly the most expensive consumer 
fuel, therm per dollar.

There are a lot of reasons for fuel choices, as suggested by others, but the 
info combined with your criteria can help you make a choice that's right for 
you.
