The temporary guys are for making the tower safe to climb.
I mentioned earlier that a friend was taking down a 25G. I don't know
the full height, but he only had 30 feet left to go. I don't know how
it happened, or what caused it, but the tower broke over at the base.
Being strapped on, there was no time to unhook. he hit the ground with
the tower on top of him. He'll never be able to work again, or even be
the same.
Another one is on the six meter group with pretty much the same outcome
although he seldom mentions the accident..
Whether going up or down, the next section always has temporary guys
unless there is a set of permanent guys close to the top of the next one
going down. I should have said had instead of has, as I no longer climb.

I'm wondering if tower specs and construction have changed in the past 45 years.
The reason I say this is bcuz back around 1970, when I was about 20, I put up
50 feet of freestanding R25 and hung a TH-3 for a WB8 friend in SW Ohio. It was
up for prolly 5 years until he died and I removed and sold it for his widow.
While it was up there were the usual midwest storms and it stood proudly.
Would I do that again ?
