For those who enjoy modeling you might want to take a look at this "vertical on 
a beach" thread which was posted on eHam several months ago:

There are several caveats to watch out for.  In particular it's very easy to 
put the antenna "out to sea" when you meant for it to be "back from the beach".

Also note the comments made by K4SAV in the second post of that eHam thread.  
And if you continue reading the third post and beyond you'd better have a large
