My 3-el straight Steppir (no trombones) has been trouble-free since
neighbor K6XX put it on my 120 ft tower ten years ago. I've been VERY
pleased with performance, and would make the same decision again.
Based on my own experience and what I hear from friends, I consider the
straight SteppIRs a very mature design, but those with "trombones" far
less so.
