I'm getting all in on these FFA and Farm and Ranch reporting tips we're getting here on TT no less. Pleasantly impressed with the wide range of experiences being shared.

FWIW,
While I was building my 80 meter 4-square when I made the mistake of not making
sure the neighbors goat could not reach it. Was a surprise to see my sloper
moving around to the NE. When I got up there the goat (Elinor) was fit to be
tied and wasn't happy to have me near her. I had to hold onto her horns while
doing surgery to the sloper and dacron line. Luckily she did not cut herself
but she wasn't too happy to have me in her pasture. If she had of been a cow I
doubt I could have kept my neighbor from knowing about it. Cows are so much
more uncooperative.

So I suspect you ought to go with elevated radials and serious strong supports.
You know the cattle will rub and scratch themselves on the supports. And if you
have ever been in the midst of cattle when they decide to stampede (Exit stage
right!) you won't want to be there again. If there is a bull around you best be
friendly to him.

You didn't say for what band. If for 160 or 80, I'd go with elevated
radials if practical. The good advice I've gotten (from N6BT)  is that
18 ft is sort of a minimum height for 160, so half that for 80. Also, of
course, per N6LF, eight is better than four, because it maximizes the
uniformity of current distribution on the radials. My elevated radials
for 160 worked a lot better after I raised them from about 6 ft to about
18 ft.

I’m about to put in a radial field but the area is infested with Angus. Terrain
is in its natural state, never graded, planted or anything, just coarse grass and
weeds and pretty rocky and uneven. I was hoping to use lawn staples (lots of them) as
they seem to have a very good grip in this soil.

My concern is that the cows will snag the wires or pull them up while grazing. Then
I’m stuck trying to shallow-bury everything... ugh. Anyone have any experience
or advice on cows vs. radials?
