...the question is not ripple. A high capacitance here will improve the
dynamic range of the current capability of the supply, what we nickname the
stiffness (stable voltage on current peaks)
But there's no free lunch: like it was pointed out, the peak currents
through the rectifiers and the danger of arc damage  really goes up.
Usually, what's needed is between 30 and 50 uF. This provides sufficient
capacity to supply peaks and still limits the damage level to something
reasonable. And the equation is right: YOU REALLY HAVE THAT MUCH ENERGY
STORED! BEWARE!
