Well, it is their contest, so it's their rules.    Probably not the best idea to advertise breaking the contest rules, or was there a hint of remorse. 



I agree that antenna, location, and skill would be a better choice of investment, although I've never won any contest.  Then again, I did ok in 2008 CQWW SSB with 5 watts and four stacked extended double zepps on 20 meters.
