How about the #@!!$@#! annotation for when everything goes wrong
in the contest. Perhaps this could encompass all problems, big and
small, and would minimize the post contest whining, excuse
making, and "qualification" of scores.

Seriously, I don't really see the need to distinguish 2-radio ops vs.
1-radio ops though a single asterisk wouldn't be the most difficult
thing to add. But it seems that if we have an asterisk for one
thing then (as has been shown in other posts) we will end up with
having to have symbols for everything. The results would need an
entire page of definitions. (And what if I use 3 radios!!!?)

This was a JOKE! I was KIDDING! I thought your saying was a funny
twist on what we all know is the truth (that many times gets ignored
by many stations... and we might be a bit guilty of sometimes in
quick packet jumps if we are out of sync..) That "If you can't hear
em, you can't work em..." I saw this as an opportunity to "make a
funny" by reacting toward your statement as if you said it on the
air... that's all.. sorry you took it the wrong way... It was only
meant as a joke at the phrase the way it was presented.. not a slam
on you... (as you will note.. I even but a smiley to make sure every
knew I was kidding...)

Yes, you can enchance the vertically polarized component from a delta loop
by feeding it about 1/8 wavelength up from a bottom corner. However,
this makes the antenna very ground-dependent - just like a vertical. For
typical ground conductivities, you will be sacrificing a significant amount
of gain. If you have the luxury of height, a high, horizontally polarized
delta loop will have much more low-angle gain. KC1XX has taken good advantage
of this.

If you are trying to evaluate some simple, low band antennas, such as
dipoles vs. inverted vees vs. delta loops, etc., it is well worth your time
to experiment with MN or ELNEC with the options and heights you have at
your disposal.

Danny, yes, an asterisk beside the calls of the 2-radio guys is desirable
so when I see those stars, I will know I can ignore what follows. For
that matter, let's do the same thing for the VHFers using FM on any band:
use FM, get a Star. Thanks and excellent idea, Steve KO0U/4

I've upgraded my computer since the last CQP and have lost
track of the freeware CQP software that it had.

Which FTP site has it?

Is there a new version this year?

See ya in the SSB Sprint, I'm going to be a junior LIZARD, is
that a salamander?

Once again, I am totally blown away by Willy, UW9AR's, ability to express
himself in a second language. Awesome!!

I think the first point Willy raises is the most important one... What
is the objective??

Determining who the best op is could be the objective... but I really
doubt that is possible. You might determine who the best op is on
that weekend with the stations set up the way they are... but unless
I can take my station along so it is set up the way I have trained
myself, I am not operating at the same level as I do at home.

Other great ops won't be there for various reasons, or they might be
part of the judging team.

Cast my vote for the objective to be as follows:

The gather an international group of people who love radio contesting to
operate a contest event to do the following:

  - Promote friendship among this group of people.
  - Provide positive role models for other contesters.
  - Promote contesting to non contesters by providing a postive image.
  - Give feedback on logging accuracy.
  - Demonstrate to non hams what the sport is about.

We should strive to make everyone feel like they were part of a great
event and not send the majority of them home feeling like a loser.

I heard an interesting story by T.R. Reed who is an American living in
Japan. He recently climbed Mount Fuji with a group of 60 other Japanese.
They all took off in the same bus, and even before they starting climbing
the mountain, there were group photos taken and other activities to
encourage you to become friends with these people. Then the group climbed
the mountain together. If someone had a problem, the group stopped until
it was resolved. They got to the top as a group and came back down
lifetime friends.

Last night, I was in a basketball league game. At the end, we lost the
game, but everyone was out there congratulating each other on their
shooting. We were all just glad to have a chance to play the game we
love and be able to compete.

I would love to have a similar experience, with new friends that I will
see in contests for the rest of my life. It would also be neat to see
how some of these people operate contests. This suggests mixing up the
teams so we operate with people we didn't know before.

Also, I don't think we should turn anyone away who wants to be there.
Hams are one of the most accommodating groups of people I know. The
bigger the event the better. If it means we have 3 or 4 people per team,
so be it. Let's measure our success on the number of people we can
attract (especially international), not by how many QSOs we make.

I hope other contesters can check their leave their egos home for the
WRTC and focus on the group experience.

PS: Please NO pictures of the winners this time in the magazines!! Instead
a picture of the whole group!!!!!!!!!!!!

The biggest beef I here from Canadians about US contests is the the fact
many dont recognize the maritime provinces as seperate mults or the fact
that VE8 and VY1 are lumped together.
N0BSH has a point-how about recognizing VE1,VO1/2,VE9 and VY2 as
seperate mults? Whats the downside?
