DRILLING THE DUAL RADIO MODE 500 TIMES.

Ok, here is what TACO managed in the CW test.
10 meters 19 QSOs 13 Mults
15 meters 43 QSOs 29 Mults
20 meters 22 QSOs 18 Mults
Total points 15,120
Not bad as TACO broke the 50q barrier.....
Equipment TS850 (no CW filters) and an R5

Q's on all 3 bands and a special thanks to J75A
for the QSY to 15 meters and all who helped.

I would like to take an informal survey of how you operate CW in a contest.
What I mean to ask, do you use keyer alone, or one of the many 'memory' boxes
that are available; maybe a CW keyboard; maybe CT to key the rig. Would
be interested to see what everyone does. Will post replies in a summary
for all to see.

Comments: I tried to be a contester this time instead of a DXers. Results were that
my QSOs were up but my multipliers were down. Overall, it seemed
that my score was improved as a result. CT says I was off for
6.4 hours, but that must includes some slow hours. The majority
of my off time was from 0830Z to 1030Z Sunday when I slept for
90 minutes and took a hot shower. I think I was only off for
three hours or less.
Tem meters opened to Eu via skewed path and I was only able to copy
a few of the European 10 meter spots on Sunday and none on Saturday.
New England seemed to be hearing the signals pretty good while I
was listenning to rx noise hiss. Did the opening not extend to
New York, ir do I have rx troubles? Maybe a preamp would be in order.
Forty meters was a surprise, because I was using a low Mosley 2 el
yagi. The 4 element KLM at 190 feet has developed SWR problems and
the Orion rotator is stuck solid. I probably made less than 20 QSO
on it and the rest on the Mosley. I know that arrival angle may
account for a lot of the difference. Orion never sent me a circuit
diagram when I bought it. Does anyone have circuit information that
would help me do some ground checks.
Boy, am I groggy today. I may be getting too old for this. I should
do more Sprints to improve my stamina.

I was prepared to use the ravages of flu as an excuse, but after an
awful Thursday night and a lot of aspirin on Friday, it tapered off to
constant nose blowing and sporadic coughing attacks, usually when I was
trying to copy something in the noise. Anyhow, made the full 48 hours
and feel pretty good today, just minor cold symptoms.
First hour rate was down by 53 QSOs, I was 100 QSOS down after 10 HOURS
100 Up after 24. Second day was much better than last year.
ARRL DX may be my favorite contest, its easy from here, great rates and
everyone is chasing us W's.
My appologies to any sprinters who felt I was bashing them. I thought
I could shed some light on why there is no overwhelming participaion from
the 3 clubs mentioned. I did take offense that any contest is the ultimate
determination of anything. I also have started thinking about station
modification and techniques to improve my sprint scores.

Fred it is good to see you active via Internet! I was active this past
weekend on 40 only and was making my first attempt to use a computer
for logging, etc. It really blows my mind as to the operating habits that
this automation has encouraged. Endless CQ ing! W3BGN is almost fun to listen to!
