Hi Bill,
In a message dated 96-04-01 13:07:32 EST, you write:

That's a common misconception Bill. Beg all you want, one dB of voltage
change is 1 dB of power change, look at the formulas! A 3 dB pad provides a 3
dB voltage, current and power loss.
S meters show larger than expected increases because 6 dB is NOT an S unit.
That figure never was an industry wide standard, and certainly isn't today.
Almost every rig is 3 to four dB per S unit when properly aligned. And even
the dB end of their scales are usually wrong.
Remember three dB is three dB, with either voltage, current or power. It's
one of those rules that work funny but save headaches.

Fellow beings:
Well a number of you realized the April Fools part of my prior posting.
However the rest was meant to stimulate thoughts on dealing with a problem
that is just in its infancy. The sophistication of the Pig Farmers Net is
growing. It is a matter of time before we have an epidemic of fraudulant
contacts made with our own voices recorded off of the air. I have 6
stateside qsl cards from SS SSB for times that were during my off period.
They are quite legitimate and could have snuck through if it wasn't for the
fact they were low #'s well into the contest.
Again, any thoughts on how to combat this?
My apologies to those folks whose calls I used in my last post.

Here is the first draft of out wpx score. I heard you a couple of times and
we were close. would like any multi-single scores that you can supply,
including your own(Canadian) heard RM and he was farther back than you.
We operated with two operators, myself and VA3WTO, Rui. He was up for WW and
decided to come back to help. Mike MW was not able to come, and a couple of
others didn't show. I think we did better with two dedicated ops than we
would have with several not so dedicated ops.
73 and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Gary cites stations xmitting on several freqs. at once. Is it possible
that the real stations were doing this on purpose? Were all these
reports Gary makes really other stations or the real stations?
Maybe we need an encoded callsign on sub-audible for all our xmissions?
I heard a WX3_ doing some very irritating things with the autovoice
keyer or something. Hope it was not really WX3_. By the way, know what
a dx window is?

I saw a 5 kw amp at a dx and contest station that also had a 80 meter
beam. The PL259 kept arcing and the 80 m beam had parts burned off under
operation. My Bird measured it.
The station, I think, and the operator, I am sure, are no longer there.

Bill,
I have almost 100 guy wires in my installation and all use 5/16" EHS steel
terminations between the guy anchor and the bottom of the fiberglas guys.
The Loos Tension Gauge is completely self contained, it does not require
external cable grips! The Loos Tension Gauge measures the force
required to distort the guy cable laterally, this force being
proportional to the tension in the cable! You simply place the gauge
over the guy wire, and pull the gauge laterally to a calibrated lateral
tension, then read the amount of lateral distortion from a distortion
gauge. It takes far less time to make guy tension measurement than it
takes to read this description!
The 9/16" Loos Tension gauge is 100% useful on 5/16" cable, it just takes
a few strokes with a round file to make it fit! As I mentioned earlier, I
can measure the tension in every guy wire in my station in an afternoon with
the Loos Tension Gauge. If had to use a dynamometer it would take a week!

I have the CQ WW 160 SSB log in hand from 5N0MVE. He runs a TS-850, TL 922
AMP and a 1/4 wave vert with 5 elevated radials on 160. When I hear him he
is usually loud here and i have 3 Q's with him on 160, 2 in contests.
The only USA/VE to get him in the 96 CQ WW 160 SSB were AA5BL and KA1BQ/VE1.

I sold mine today. Too many frustrations over the past two SSB contests.
Mostly revolving around the microprocessor in the radio. The receiver in
this radio is wonderfull and if you only do CW it's your rig. Anyone want
to sell an FT1000MP?
Problems I noted:
#1: Program the radio for split in CT and the RX frequency changes to what
should have been the TX frequency. Now you've lost the guy you were going
to call. Good luck finding him again. I'm confident this isn't a CT problem.
#2: The radio will spontaneously QSY to say 99.XXXMhz. Turning the radio
off and on is only cure. Not a big deal, but my Icom never did this. I
think this may be RF getting in to the microprocessor but have no way to
confirm it. It doesn't happen very often and only with the amp QRV.
#3: The microprocessor will some how reset the tuning rate to 5.12 (maximum
tuning speed of the VFO). At this point it will not let you change it back
to what it was. Only cure is hard reset of the microprocessor and
reprogramming all of the functions again. Only happens when the computer
his hooked up to the DB25 on the back of the radio. Usually when it is
first plugged in.
I'm sure I'll miss it on CW, but I can't afford for a radio to cost me mults
on SSB.

Once I figure out where TO3A was, I will be able to figure the final score
for our Multi-Single effort. (KT8X)
Can you tell me where this station was operating? My CTY.DAT file isn't new
enough to have it, yet.
Thanks in advance........
Oh, we had 2024 Q's X 818 Mults for approx 3.88 mil.
See you next year, same contest, same call..................73,
