Hi,
Yes, there are single band categories in the: High power, Low
power, QRP and Assisted categories. There always have been such
categories. Look at any result for the CQWW in CQ magazine. Single
band entrants in the assisted category have ALWAYS been recognized
in the magazine by printing their results and with certificates to
the winners.
Rule III. A. states very clearly: Single Operator Categories:
Single band or all band.....etc.

For those of you interested, I have posted a schematic and description of
a simple amplifier relay accelerator. It uses 1 transistor, 1 resistor, 1
capacitor, and 2 diodes, and may be placed in the TR line between rig and
amp. It is basically the same circuit as Tony, K1KP, posted to the
reflector last autumn.

The Yaesu FT990 uses the same circuit, and I had been considering making
this same modification for the same reason. I wanted to get a spec. sheet
for the internal I.C. first to make certain it will survive the abuse of
having its output pin shorted to ground. Does anyone have info. on this I.C.?
I have tentatively decided to use TRLog's manual CW keyer support instead.
The paddle inputs supported are the same pins on a parallel port as the
non-working CT ones: pin 12/dit, pin 13/dah and both need a 10 K Ohm pullup
to pin 14/+5V. Does NA support this feature?
This method gives the added feature of interrupting any automatic CW the
logging program may be sending as soon as either paddle contact is closed.
When not using the logging program one plugs the paddle into the rig instead.
I have heard a few complaints about my QSK signal quality, and I suspect
this is caused by slow acting QSK/ antenna relay control circuits. To give
them more time to operate, I am considering NAND-ing the paddle inputs with
CW OUT (inverted) from the parallel port and applying the result to the PTT
lines in both the rig and the amp. (as suggested recently by George
Cutsogeorge, W2VJN and others) Has anyone tried this with the Yaesu FL-7000
amp or similar?

Yes - NA does.

I think this is a big benefit to keeping the computer as your keyer.
Otherwise - if you don't like what your computer is sending, you have to
stop the computer and then start sending. If you are using the computer,
just grab the paddle and the computer will abort its message and let you
send. It is also at the same code speed.

Wouldn't that disable the break in feature? Instead of doing this, you
can connect the PTT control that TR log supports and let the program turn
on your PTT relays before it puts out CW. This feature even works for CW
generated with the paddle and the delay is adjustable. It also won't
turn off until the last dit or dah is done - but doesn't have any delay
like VOX does.
The delay defaults to 15 milliseconds - which is pretty much un-noticable,
but gives plenty of time for the TR relays to switch over. One UA0
complained that his relays were slower than that - so that is when I made
it programmable.
After operating from EA9 with several stations within a KM of me, I really
appreciate people's attempts to get rid of that click when they start
transmitting!!

Subject: ARRL Contest Rules, Incomplete or Inaccurate?

It was recently pointed out that DC was a seperate multiplier in the ARRL
10 Meter contest. The rules in QST stated the multiplier as the 50
states and the ARRL DX countries list. Seems like if they can afford the
paper to publish what makes up the multipliers, they could add a few more
words to include DC and R1,2,3. This is quite misleading and I'm curious
if I was the only one dumb enough not to grab the "complete rules"?
Finally got them off the ARRL BBS and no harm done since the deadline is
still a few days away... But this kind of reporting of the rules sucks!
It appears that K5LZO/MM in Region 2 was also a seperate multiplier? Can
someone confirm this for me?

Hi all,
Thanks to all who replied about my queries for the ARRL RTTY Roundup
rules.
For those who may be interested, from the replies, it appears that all
categories can only operate 24 out of the 30 hours, and must have two
off times clearly marked in the log. Secondly, the multi-single
category is just that, SINGLE TX. No other rigs are allowed to be
working new mults, as there is a true 10 minute rule.
Different contests = different rules. I'll learn them some day !!
So, now that the rules are cleared up, please call us this weekend when
we will be operating from GI0KOW in the multi-single category.
