    Right you are.  Another advantage is when you want to add or subtract a
feedline in a bundle, you just unwrap it and tie it up again when you're done
-- no useless tape or tie wraps to litter the back 40.  I guess that makes it
ecologically acceptable also.

I'd like to thank everyone for the great response I've received to my
query about the performance of EWE antennas.

To date, I've received about 15 replies, many of them quite thoughtful
and detailed!

I'll be happy to work up some kind of summary, and repost, if there's
sufficient interest. 

In any event, Scott, KA9FOX has asked me to send him something so he
can hang it off of his Web page.

If anyone who has sent me e-mail on the EWE would rather NOT have all or
part of their letters to me posted, please let me know; your writings are 
your property, not mine!

Oh - the one sentence summary is this: The EWE is much better than your
standard "non gain" antenna (i.e: a dipole), but not as good as a
Beverage  > 280', and about even with a "gain" antenna (i.e: a '4 Square').

Actually, there is a company in Canton, MA, Plymouth Rubber
Co., Inc., which manufactures Plymouth/Bishop "Premium 85CW"
Vinyl Plastic Electrical Tape, catalog number 4240.  It is
3/4 in. x .0085 in. x 66 ft. (19mm x .216mm x 20m).

Obviously 85CW means .0085 inches thick and CW = Cold
Weather.

This company also makes a product known in the cable TV
trade as "BishopSeal."  Which is widely used over hardline
connectors, in the same place others use 3M 130C, 3M 23, or
CoaxSeal.

85CW is sold through electrical supply houses.  BishopSeal
is sold through electrical supply houses AND cable TV supply
houses.

[I have no affiliation whatsoever.  I once met a marketing
guy from Plymouth Rubber and he got me a sample of 85CW.  I
learned of BishopSeal on my own.]

After reading all the glowing reviews of beverages as receiving antennas I
need two questions answered.

1. I can run beverages in all directions for at least 1 mile before I run
into anything.....really ANYTHING.  To the north, northwest and west I have
a terrain transition (slope down a hill) of 40', then flat for the next mile
+.  How does this terrain transition affect the performance of the antenna? 

2. If my receive noise is very low (like S3 is really a bad night) should I
go to the trouble of stringing up an elaborate system?
