[CQ-Contest] 160CW Dupes

If this subject has not been overdone to the extreme I just wanted to add a
comment from last weekend's 160 contest.

While looking for a new run frequency I make quick S&P contacts as I pass by.

I heard OMxxx calling CQ and called him.

He came back to IKxxxx with DUPE B4.

IKxxxx came back with NOT IN LOG PSE QSO

OMxxxx came back with a time from his log.

I qsy'd and continued to look for an open run frequency. Don't know if the
OM station ever found me or not. I was prepared to wait out a quick QSO,
not a discussion over dupe or not.

I have always, and always will, work all dupes. With static crashes and QRM
on both ends, there are always broken calls. Yes, there are some stations
who seem to not keep any log and call 4 or 5 times in each contest. Give 'em
a number and carry on as quickly as possible. Especially if there are others
calling.

And let me also confess to being a duper. Sometimes I am not sure I have
made a good Q but am unwilling to stick around for a better confirmation.
Perhaps the QRM has gotten out of hand - probably someone with a stuck F1
key and no ears is 100 Hz away. I keep a list of such calls on a piece of
paper. Later, if I hear that station calling CQ with few takers, I pop in
and make a good qso. Perhaps it is a dupe, but I figure that as I am almost
always a multiplier they probably don't mind overmuch. Hey, if you mind, let
me know, and I won't bother in future. VE3EJ: did you mind, or was the first
Q a broken one? Thanks for both Qs.

If you have logged me as CT1LJ instead of C31LJ you might prefer a
correction...

BTW, I am talking about a couple of Qs per contest, not a whole bunch of
insurance contacts on every multiplier.

73 & TNX for the Qs

And many thanks to C31LD for the use of his station on the weekend. I got a
chance to play with the IC-775DSP and it was a pleasure to use. Wish I had
played with it for a few minutes before the contest started, but it was
pretty intuitive. I'll hold my complaints until I read the manual. The 250Hz
CW filters were impressive.
