Hello All
Well the rules state "one transmitted signal allowed at a time" thus there
is no way you could claim more than one frequency. If you QSY then the
frequency you left is up for grabs.
Now the way things are now it is now it is "Might makes right!!!" if you
are strong enough to take the frequency back then it is yours. This reminds
me of the bullies in school taking lunch money from the weaker kids.
This debate has been going on for years and will probably never change the
strong stations will always do what they want and we weaker pop guns
stations will go on complaining about it.
If we wanted to change this we could ( and I know this will never happen
because of the nature of contesting) when we hear one of the operators leave
a frequency and come back and bully the weaker station off then you boycott
that station. Yes it will hurt your score and you will not get into the top
ten box but if enough of the weaker stations boycott the bully stations then
sooner or later his score will suffer also and all he will be able to run is
the other like stations.
I have heard ( or seen it written) several times that the bread and butter
of the SO2R stations is the little popgun stations after all we out number
them and there is strength in numbers.
Like I said this will never happen and the SO2R stations will still try and
have 2 frequencies 1 run and another multi frequency and they will still run
us little stations off their run frequency and we will still complain about
it and nothing will change unless the SO2R operators decide to be gentlemen.
If they come back to their run frequency and it is being used( I consider
calling CQ being used a legitimate signal is being transmitted on the
frequency) then they need to say to themselves " well I need to find another
run frequency" instead of starting a frequency fight. These fight only hurt
both scores.
Now I know some will say this is a competition and yes it is but the only
competition I can think of that condones fighting is boxing, martial arts
and wrestling none of these pertain to our hobby and I can think of no hobby
that condones fighting.
This kind of operating has changed the way I contest. I almost never try to
call CQ. I S&P almost all the time. Why? because I know I am a little
station and I will never win one of these fights, but then that is what
these SO2R stations want for us little guys to S&P and find them give them a
contact and then leave them alone, at least on that band.
It has been suggested that SO2R be in a class by themselves and compete
against each other but we have covered that too and it is a dead-end. The
ten minute rule applied to SO2R is another idea that won't fly. So I guess
the debate will come up after every major contest. So we can all save our
messages to a file and repost them in Aug after NAQP then after CQWW and so
on and so on
Another thing to think about is we want to bring in new operators to
contesting. When they hear one of these fights going on during a contest do
you think they will want to continue contesting?
Now I know I have offended every SO2R operator out there but if you are a
frequency bully then all the above applies if you are a considerate SO2R op
then it does not apply to you and I applaud you methods. Yes I know that not
everyone can operate SO2R and it is a skill some can learn and some can't
but does that mean that since you can work 2 rigs at the same time that you
get 2 frequencies?
If you feel you have to flame me go ahead the delete key still works fine
and If I wear it out I have a brand new spare keyboard in the closet HIHI
