With the novice license disappearing following the recent restructuring it
will become semiextinct in a few years. Novices will soon find their way to
the General and beyond. The Tech Plus is even closer to the same goal.
What we really need to do is get the Tech no-coder introduced to CW and HF so
that they too make the effort.Allowing participation at the novice / tech
station is a good start.
Maybe rather than a novice / tech station as an extra no charge transmitter
we should make that same free transmitter a "new licensee station" which can
include any operators licensed within the last year. All these people are
inexperienced.
With CW now only at 5 wpm I suspect those really interested are going to
upgrade to at least General within their first year. There is no longer a
training period for one to learn CW. Once you pass the test you can grab any
glass by a quick study book memotization session.
