I have been overwhelmed by the number of responses to my posting earlier and
wish to thank everyone that took the time to write.

The more experienced contesters have been solid in their treatment. I
should respond right away with SRI NOT IN LOG , Later.... and QRZ QRP? de
VY1JA. Even though this may take time away from logging the polite ops.

The logic goes that others will hear this and wait.

----It is important to note that I plan to try the above on SS Phone.----

Several of my good contesting friends "thought" that they heard me faintly
and moved on... the shame of this is that they were RIGHT!. I often give
repeated calls to people whose callsigns I recognize as from serious
contesters... These heard a "faint Watery signal and could not pull it
through". Hey! stop and think. The northern latitudes do that to our
signals, and who is crazy enough to stay and call with a signal like that?
Perhaps that Canadian Loon, VY1JA?

On the other side of this, I was told that after I had been in VO1MP's
pileup for a half hour, and just as I had given up and left, he stood by
sending AS AS VY1JA? VY1JA?. So it happens to all of us. :o)

Thanks,

J. , VY1JA

--------------------nice surprise-------------------------

There is usually a preponderance of VY1/VE8/VY0 stations on during the phone
portion of the contest. In particular, watch for VY1MB, Bob, whom I have
been encouraging in contesting. He is catching on rapidly and will be a
good contester, if he is not driven away by poor operators. He will be in
there and working hard SOLP10. Please be good to him. He is a new
operator, and will need every courtesy.

If you wish to contact Bob with good wishes, he is at:
