Steve,

We were wondering if there was any problem switching modes 
rapidly and there is prohibition against it as long as you 
assure that you only transmit one signal. (see my prior post 
regarding this topic, and N1ND's response.)

So at W3USA last weekend we had two rigs with one amp. A 
crossover switch (Top Ten design) and a DPDT manual switch 
controlled who got to transmit through the amp to the beam. 
The other station got to listen on a dipole 8' off the ground.

Some people speculated that we'd have front-end overload 
problems, which we did not. What we did have was phase noise 
problems, not evident during the EU openings, but a real pain 
late in the evening. The IC-780 was much worse in this regard 
that the FT-1000MP.
