You're certainly entitled to your opinion.  However, now you are penalizing 
the station who didn't get a contact the first time for whatever reason, as 
well as yourself, because the first QSO probably doesn't count in your log 
either.

I think it's become obvious here that the good operators (the ones who make 
the top-10 boxes year after year) work the dupe and move on.  If you want 
to get into the box, this is one of the ways to do it - NEVER leave a 
potential QSO on the floor, for whatever reason.
