SO2R operating increases one's efficiency. Efficient operating is what is
important to me. I am glad that I tried and use SO2R. I'm not very good at
it, but I know I have improved my rates, scores, and proficiency as a radio
operator.
I believe that to be a contender in a contest, you must be efficient. If
you are not exploiting and using every opportunity to increase your
efficiency, you are doing yourself an injustice. That I'm eating into that
35% dead time in the contest period by operating SO2R makes me happy and,
hopefully, more efficient. It also makes me want to reduce the dead time
further. I feel I'm optimizing my time (my boss would be so happy if I
would only work that hard at optimizing my time at work!!) by operating SO2R
and the results are clear to me: Higher score, more fun.
SO1R = calling CQ on the radio, looking at the screen/radio/clock/walls/cat,
twiddling thumbs, contemplating contesting as an effective use of one's
time/weekend
SO2R = calling CQ on radio1, lining up or working the next contact on radio2
