I forwarded both K4JA and W1AW/5 stations descriptions to S5ham reflector as
an inspiration although I am having a lot of fun with hamradio on the budget :-)

Subject: [CQ-Contest] Inspiration or ?
K4OGG posted a note to our SECC mailing list pointing people to the K4JA
contest station web site (www.k4ja.com).
I've often wondered if pictures and promotion of big stations serves as an
inspiration or a deterrent? Does the new guy to contesting look at that
super-station (as I did when I first saw K4VX/0) and say to himself
"someday", or does he say to himself "What's the use"?
I suspect there are some of both. My feeling is that we contesters may
spend too little time promoting the guy succeeding on a budget. To me, I
think a contest-newbie would be much more interested in reading about how
KT3Y has managed to consistently make the top ten in the major DX contests
with no towers or aluminum. Or an article about how NT1N has managed to
do some pretty unbelievable things using only a 3-element roof-mounted
sucker-master. Or the numerous others that are succeeding out there.
I think the K4JA.com web site is great. To me, it is an inspiration. As
are the other crazy nuts that build insanely huge stations. I just hope
someone doesn't come to my site or Paul's site and think "whats the use?".
Maybe this is an idea for a column in the NCJ? Winning on a budget!
