[CQ-Contest] Inspiration or ?

I don't know whether pictures and descriptions of big stations encourage or
discourage those who don't have them, but a lot of fun does exist at the
opposite end of the material world - mobile contesting in the bigger state
qso parties.

For less than the price of one new section of Rohn 45 you can get all the
antennas you need to hit the road, and when you do, whatever anybody else
does, they won't be much louder than you. Even W5WMU/m is just another
signal :-) So mobile contesting becomes a much purer test of operating
skill, vs. station acquiring skill.

The next two weekends are perhaps the two biggest state qso parties of the
year - this weekend California, next weekend Pennsylvania. A good number of
mobile stations will be out in these events - so get on the air, pass out
some qsos to the deserving, and check out the fun the mobiles are having
(especially when they enter a new county). And consider getting equipped to
go mobile yourself if there is a state party in or near your state.

I plan to be out mobiling in the PA QSO Party, though probably only on Sunday
October 14. Stop by, find me (and anyone else) and give us a call. See what
we can do with a couple of 7 foot antennas plopped onto a 50 square foot
chunk of metal roof real estate.

And I am in the process of writing an article on this for the NCJ. It's
still a few issues away.
