"Lotsa people golf and they can't keep the ball on the fairway or get
a $1 mill check like the pros do, but they still golf!! It's the same thing
with radio sport. If ya like it, ya do it, all the while trying to get
better at it. Getting better comes with playing more and even once in a
while getting better equipment, like a new pair of Adidas, a new set of
Pings, or a 200 foot rotating tower."

Great points.
As a golfer I don't limit myself to playing with guys who have a higher
handicap than I do.
I also don't beat my brains in trying to beat a 4 handicap with my 9
handicap swing straight up.
If I can keep with the spread against a lower handicap player I've
accomplished something.
If I can help a higher handicapper lower his score I've also contributed to
the game as a whole.

It's the same with contesting.
I know I can't take on a "mega station" head to head in the DX contests but
if I can stay within the spread
of geography, hardware and experience I've accomplished something.
I also enjoy getting others who've never tried contesting to give it a try.
If I know another station has the same "handicap" as I do I'm competitive
as hell.

I like looking at the super stations simply from an engineering standpoint.
I think they're a resource to learn from.
