[CQ-Contest] CW keying using PC - IC706MKII

Hi Filipe:

On many radios (I'm familiar with FT1000MP's), you have to use a STEREO
plug, with the keying on the "TIP" to use the paddle connector to send
CW. A mono plug causes what you describe since the "RING" from the
stereo plug is grounded by a mono plug. I usually keep a couple of
mono-to-stereo adapters around for just this reason.

Hope this helps. I have never used a IC706, but this is a common problem
with other rigs.
