RayLook back at past results for the February CW Sprint. Just about every year at least 7 of the top 10 stations in the High Power category are either on the west coast, Texas, NM or Colorado. For the most part the guys that make it to the top 10 from east of the Mississippi all have nice stations and are SO2R aficionados. So of course the stations out west will benefit from another hour that they can operate on 20 meters.I would like to see an experiment to have February Sprints be 160-80-40 meters and September Sprints 20-40-80 meters. No matter the rules I will always be on for the CW Sprint. It's always been one of my favorites.JeffSent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

Normally, we all move to 40m within 30 minutes since there are no East Coast to work. Its like 20m turns into a dead band. And, because of this we often miss the hard to find NE mults that are generally easier to work on 20m.The East side of the US also has the density advantage especially on 40m & 80m. There are times when I will reply to a loud W1, 2, or 3 CQ and get beat out by a W2 that I don't even hear. And when competing to work a rare W1 or VE/VO mult, we are at another disadvantage since often everyone in the US is calling them too. Distance makes a difference on the low bands! My thoughts...Ray,N6VROn Wed, Feb 3, 2021, 8:32 PM ku8e <ku8e at ku8e.com> wrote:Why not in the future have an experiment and have the Sprint be 160-80-40 meters?I agree starting an hour earlier will give more advantage to the west coast.JeffSent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

In the last few years, 20m has only been open in the Eastern USA for a short time after the start. This reduces it to a two band contest for half the country. They guys out West, being 2-3 hours behind in daylight time, had more time to make QSOs on 20, while not really impacting their QSO totals on 40 and 80.The hope is that by starting an hour early, everyone will get more time on 3 bands. This may not solve everything, but it should make the game more fun for more people.Randy K5ZD-----Original Message-----From: CQ-Contest <cq-contest-bounces+k5zd=outlook.com at contesting.com> On Behalf Of James CainSent: Tuesday, February 2, 2021 12:21 PMTo: CQ-Contest Reflector <cq-contest at contesting.com>Subject: [CQ-Contest] Feb Sprint time changes"The February 6 *NCJ* <https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fncjweb.com%2F&data=04%7C01%7C%7Cf6861bb026dc4bf6cad408d8c7a907a2%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637478876085373031%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=wof3EPdvZyr1ITZjEGzf%2BwGY5lVnK4tBEJ%2FzqUEzno4%3D&reserved=0>-sponsored North American Sprint(CW) and the March 13 RTTY Sprint will begin 1 hour earlier, at 2300 UTC instead of 0000 UTC. Both contests will end at 0259 UTC. An earlier start time will give participants in the north and east a larger window for 20-meter activity." (ARRL news page).Since participants in "the West" already have an advantage in domestic contests, doesn't this time change just give them an extra hour to work more stations in the "north and east" and increase their advantage? Here are the 3830 CW Sprint February 2020 top ten:N2IC
