[Fourlanders] K3 Performance

FYI, some of us will be operating in two weeks from W4ZST's QTH near
Dahlonega for the CQWW VHF contest. I was up at Bob's place yesterday
working on the 6 meter antennas, getting them on the tower and in the air.
Bob said that he is planning on having two K3s (one for 6 and the other for
2 with a transverter). Sherman, if you can make it up you are certainly
welcome and that will give you more time on a K3. All are welcome to
participate. The contest starts on Saturday the 18th at 2 PM and ends
Sunday the 19th at 5 PM. If you are planning on coming up to Bob's place to
operate and especially if you will be staying overnight let Bob know so he
can plan accordingly. I am not sure about food arrangements but Bob has a
refrigerator and microwave in the new shack. By the way, we will be
operating out of the new shack not the trailer and I will tell you now that
it is deluxe. See you then and hopefully 6 will be better than it was
during field day.

It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart
you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong.

I found the K3 to be a real pleasure to operate. The filters are more
intuitive to operate than on a Yaesu 1K or 2K, but I rarely needed them.
And the way the K3 was wired I was able to quickly switch from SSB to CW and
operate CW without hitting the PTT footswitch to TX. It is a radio that you
can sit down and immediately start operating.

I did hear the 220 MHz interference on the K3. But I remember hearing 2M
interference on the 2K one time on the mountain. Not sure when. I rather
hear 220 MHz than 2M since 220 is transmitting less. Perhaps we can narrow
the problem down.
