Guys,

Maybe you already know about this? Sounds likea great chance to exercise
those new IC-9700 in terrestrial mode, especially on 1296.

I think the plan is to gather at 10:00am EST on Saturday the 2nd.
Home stations will be on from northern Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.
We may also have some stations in Florida listening for us.

Portable stations will be Don, Greg K4NO on Cheaha Mountain in Alabama,
Chris NV4B in NW Alabama, and myself on a high point in EM72.
Possibly one or two more portables as well.

In addition to 1296 and 10ghz we will be doing 222mhz and 432mhz.

I had a blast last Saturday in the parking lot at Brasstown Bald (BTB)
(EM84cu) even though I was only able to make one contact via CW with Bob
kV4PC at 156+ miles away (EM64rr) on 1296.1 MHz - we tried SSB but
unfortunately lack of experience on my IC-705 IF radio prevented me from
completing that QSO - I came home and tested reception on HF of weak signal
SSB and discovered what I was doing wrong.

I was able to receive the 1296.305 beacon in EM85cg but was unable to
receive the two beacons in Virginia that I had hoped to receive. The view
to the north from the parking lot has the 600' summit blocking it, so when
I can get on the top I am sure I will be able to hear them and work
stations to the north easily.

I had taken and setup 10GHz there but the wind early in the day was so
strong I took it down - the wind at one point blew my 1296 antenna over -
luckily, I caught it before it made contact with something solid.

Hopefully the shuttle will start running again at BTB in a few weeks and I
can get up to the summit with my gear where I will have a 360-degree clear
view.

Next Saturday 4/2 should be a microwave activity day here in Georgia so I
will most likely be back up on BTB with my 1296 setup at the parking lot
then.
