This kind of say it all. Calling CQ was key in order to hail the JA jackpot that is on 15 and of course 40m. There are far less with 20m license class.
Calling cq yielded 279 JA stations (and there were more) VK9-C and T8 and a few others. Having very very good antennas yieled JT1CO, HS, Etc. Having a good hilltop also made very weak JA stations workable. Many were barely deflecting the S-meter. There was a decrease in the new YB's who have been showing up the last couple years.
In the evening on 15M, even city lot stations could manage to find a place to call cq if you wait for the majority of the east and central US to disengage. There were wide swaths of empty space on my pan adapter both Friday and Saturday evenings prior to and just after greyline.
Several days into 3830 reporting my little part time 15m effort is first in the USA and Second in North America behind VE3UTT on the east coast, mostly because of those 279 JA's.

Seemed like enough JA action from my perspective: 96 in about the last 2 hours of the contest on 15m SOSB. N6WM worked 279, also SOSB on 15m. But I'd agree there weren't as many of the other regular Asia stations as I would have expected. Can't speak for the other bands...
