I agree with the silliness of the nets and their "demand we QSY".

That said, I have a couple of interesting stories to share.

A few years ago, I was running on 40. About 20 minutes from the top of the
hour, a guy says "Nose Pickers Net will start at the top of the hour" and
he refused to acknowledge I was there. I simply said "Frequency is in use"
and ignored him. He repeated his announcement a few times as the top of
the hour approached, and I continued to ignore him. Top of the hour comes
and he runs through his announcement and starts looking for checkins. I
reminded him "FREQUENCY IS IN USE!" In the end, he left without ever
talking to me. Guess he had to skip his nose picking that evening, and he
felt deprived!

The other thing I have noticed is when a net is about to start, folks start
jamming me. Farts, burbs and various noises, carriers and the like. They
don't ask to me to QSY - they simply think by creating some QRM, I will
take a hint and leave. Lately, I started to say "Awww - is it time for the
net already??" 90% of the time the QRM stops... Perhaps they don't like
being called out for their tactics...
