[RTTY] PK232 start-up probs

Hi Ted,

Here is my 2 cents:

I run a PK-232 MBX from the WinXP operating system with no problems.

I am using the "Utility RS-232 Com port" provided by the USB Navigator
interface.

1. The jumper on the bottom of the pk232 completes a battery circuit for RAM.  
When getting initally started, remove it.  When the ram battery is activated the 
PK-232 remembers all its assigned settings after it is powered down and
you cannot change them until the jumper is removed.

2. Upon initial power up you should see the four led's on the left light up
and the Baudot led on the right should remain lit.  This indicates the 
"reset" condition for the PK-232.

3. Use hyperlink program to talk to initially talk to it.  Do as the others
have told you....assign a name such as PK232-4 or whatever comport
you are using.

4. Assign 9600, 8, 1 parameters and click "connect" in hyperlink.

5. If you are left with only a flashing cursor and nothing else, type an (*)
and hit "enter" on the keyboard.  This is the Autobaud routine for
the PK-232.  Hopefully, you will now see text as the PK-232 signs
in.  Also the CMD led will go out and the CMD and PKT leds will 
lite and remain lit, inicating that your computer is now talking to 
the PK-232 and it is assigned to Packet mode which is default.  If
you dont get the CMD and PKT leds lit, you are not communicating
with the TNC.

6. When it does, be sure to type MYCALL followed by a space and 
your call sign to change it from default PK232 to your call.

You probably have it already working but many folks have a terrible
time getting the comport interface to initially work with the PK232.

You may wonder what I am doing running a TNC from a 1st class
USB Navigator interface.  The DB-9 in the back is an extra utility full service
comport so I use it and the PK-232 in packet to connect to a DX 
cluster and spotting network.
